Niue: Dengue Fever

14/06/2012

Dengue Fever Hits 47 Cases

Manila Nosa, Acting Director of Niue Health hopes the outbreak has now peaked at the 47 reported cases.

“Most probable reason is that someone have brought it in from somewhere else, several months ago.”

“We have not got any more new cases, for the last 6-7 cases, so hopefully we have gone over the worst.”

“We are still carrying out our mosquito control programme to clear mosquito breeding sites. We have done a lot of awareness training and education through radio, television, email and other medium. It’s an ongoing work that needs to be done. We are doing everything possible to contain this outbreak.”

Village councils from every village are also cooperating to encourage and provide assistance to the people to stay vigilant in keeping this dengue fever under effective control.”

“The cleanup campaign was started for some 3-4 weeks now.”

“Although we have only been doing it for 3 weeks, already we have been getting good results. People just need to keep cooperating and keeping up with things they are supposed to be doing in keeping these mosquitoes and subsequently, the spread of dengue fever from getting out of control.”
