Dominica: The lucky cheese thief

A man who stole a piece of cheese from a Save-A-Lot store got off with a small fine and a warning.

Fifty-four year old Trevor Prentice of Riverbank was told by Magistrate Ossie Lewis that he would be lenient because it was Prentice’s first offense.

Prentice pleaded guilty, after being charged for theft of the cheese valued at EC$5.15.

He claimed that he had put the item in his pocket and forgotten it when he went to the cashier.

The security guard of the store who had seen him take the item searched him and retrieved the stolen good.

Prentice has been given until June 15 to pay the fine or face two weeks in prison.

According to the theft charge, to which he pleaded guilty, Joseph stole four bars of Sharp Cheddar, two bags of medium cheddar and two bags of mozzarella cheese amounting to $68.24.

So much cheese… I thought you were going to make macaroni or pizza… I don’t understand what you were doing with all that cheese,” Magistrate George told Joseph.
